What Is a Vape Pen?
A vape pen is a slim, pen-shaped vape you hold like a cigarette: long and narrow rather than square, light enough to forget in a pocket, and simple enough to have no settings worth learning.
Two shapes now share the name. The original is a narrow tube with the battery below and a tank on top. The newer one is a slim pod kit, flatter and shorter, and it is what most shops mean by a pen vape today. Both are on this page.
Either way, a vape pen kit means the device, a pod or tank and usually a cable in one box. We stock over 30, starting at £6.99. The plain English vape glossary sorts out the rest of the names.
Classic Pen Kits and Pen Style Pod Kits
The choice is shape, and it comes down to how you like to hold it.
-
Classic pen kits are the narrow tube, and the closest feel to a cigarette between the fingers. The Aspire PockeX fills from the top and takes a screw-in coil. The Innokin Plexus Pro is the same shape but takes a pod, with a small screen on the side.
-
Pen style pod kits are flatter and shorter but just as pocketable. A pod clicks in with the coil already inside, so there is nothing to fit by hand.
-
Both are simple. No wattage to choose on most of them, and no menu to learn on any.
If a boxier kit suits you better, the wider pod kit range covers those, and every kit we sell of any shape is in the vape kits hub.
Slim, Small and Mini Vape Pens
The smallest kits here are what people mean by a slim vape pen or a small vape pen, and three are worth knowing by name.
-
OXVA Xlim GO Lite, £6.99. 41.5g and 113mm long, the slimmest pod kit we stock and the cheapest way in.
-
Vaporesso XROS Mini Retro, £9.99. Small enough to close your hand around.
-
Elf Bar ELFX Mini, £6.99. Prefilled, so there is nothing to fill at all.
A small vape pen does mean a smaller battery. Expect a day between charges rather than two, which suits anyone who charges overnight anyway. What you gain is a kit that disappears in a pocket, which is the whole point of the shape.
How Much Is a Vape Pen?
A vape pen costs between £6.99 and £29 in the UK, and most people spend £10 to £20.
-
£6.99 to £11, the slim entry kits. One pod in the box and enough battery for a day.
-
£13 to £20, the middle, where the battery gets bigger and the airflow adjusts. Most classic pen kits sit here.
-
£20 and up, a screen, a bigger cell and more power than a pen shape really needs.
After that it is pods, coils and e-liquid. A 10ml bottle of nic salt is about £3 and lasts most people a week. End-of-line kits sit in the clearance section.
Which Vape Pen Should You Buy?
If you want the true pen shape, the PockeX or the Plexus Pro. If you want the easiest thing to live with, a slim refillable pod kit between £9 and £17. Six vape pen kits we hand over most often.

Refillable and Prefilled Vape Pens
You either fill it yourself or click in a pod that is already filled, and both are here.
Filling your own is cheaper after the first month and opens up any flavour and strength you like. Both pen shaped kits here refill, and the whole refillable range pairs with any bottle from the nic salt shelf.
Prefilled means no pouring and no mess, at the cost of staying inside one brand's flavours. Those are in the prefilled pod kits collection.
Vape Pens for Switching from Smoking
The pen shape is the one most ex-smokers reach for, because it is the closest thing to holding a cigarette.
Pair it with a mouth-to-lung pod or coil and a 10mg or 20mg nic salt. Ten a day or fewer suits 10mg, more than that suits 20mg, and the nicotine strength guide goes into it properly.
If you are buying your first vape of any shape, the vape starter kits page is the better place to start, and the beginner's guide to vaping walks through the first week.
Looking After a Vape Pen
A vape pen lasts about a year of daily use before the battery starts holding less charge, and the parts go long before the device does.
-
Pods and coils, one to two weeks each. A flavour that has gone flat is the pod or the coil, not the kit.
-
Charging, USB-C on everything here, under an hour on most.
-
Cleaning, a wipe of the connection at every pod or coil change stops most problems before they start.
Our guides on cleaning a vape and on battery safety cover the rest. When a pen is no longer enough, sub-ohm kits are the step up.
