What is a RTA Vape Tank?

Rebuildable Tank Atomisers, commonly known as RTA Vape Tanks, feature a tank above the rebuildable deck section that holds varying amounts of e-liquid, depending on the tank size. Like RDAs, users build their coils and wicks, but in RTAs, the e-liquid is supplied to the coil from the tank system. This makes RTAs very convenient, similar to many sub-ohm stock coil tanks. The standout feature of RTAs is their rebuildable nature, allowing users to dial in their vaping style fully.

RTAs come in single, dual, and even mesh coil options, catering to MTL and DTL vaping styles and everything in between. Mesh coil RTAs are more suited to more of a person starting in the rebuildable vape scene as these are much easier to coil up and wick; even though the RTA Tank market isn't as big as it once was, there are plenty of new options and innovations for the old school rebuildable vaper to choose from.

How to Use An RTA Vape?

An RTA Vape can be challenging but rewarding, as the quality and flavour are better than those of any other vape product besides an RDA.
To begin, gather your materials: an RTA, coils, cotton, scissors, and a screwdriver or maybe just the whole vape tool kit! Now, take the RTA apart, ready to prepare your build.
Next, prepare your new prebuilt handmade coils by cutting them to the appropriate length and placing them in the post holes on the build deck. Ensure the coils are securely screwed down, and then use a coil tool or ceramic tweezers to adjust their position to your personal preference. When the coils are in place, it’s time to wick.
Cut a piece of cotton, thread it through the coils, and trim it back to reach the juice wells without being too tight or loose. This ensures proper vape juice absorption. After wicking, reassemble the RTA and fill the tank with your preferred e-liquid. Make sure to saturate the cotton entirely to avoid dry hits. Allow it to sit for a few minutes to ensure the cotton is soaked.

RTA FAQ’s

What is an RTA?

An RTA is a type of vape tank that lets you build and wick your own coils, but still holds e-liquid like a standard tank.

Are RTAs hard to build on?

They can seem fiddly at first, especially with the wicking, but once you've done it a couple of times, it becomes second nature.

Why would someone choose an RTA over a stock coil tank?

RTAs give you more control over performance, flavour, and coil style. Plus they’re cheaper to run over time.

Can I use pre-built coils in an RTA?

Yes. Lots of people use ready-made coils and just install them into the deck without having to wrap their own.

Do RTAs leak easily?

They can if the wicking isn’t right or if the tank is overfilled, but with proper setup, they’re usually very reliable.

What type of e-liquid works best in an RTA?

Most RTAs work well with 70/30 or 60/40 VG/PG blends, though it really depends on the airflow and your build.

Do I need special tools to use an RTA?

You’ll need a few basics like wire cutters, ceramic tweezers, and a small screwdriver – nothing too fancy.

Is the flavour better on an RTA?

Many vapers say yes. The direct coil contact and airflow design often give a cleaner, more defined flavour than stock coil tanks.
