What is an RTAs?
Rebuildable Tank Atomisers, commonly known as RTAs, feature a tank above the rebuildable deck section that holds varying amounts of e-liquid, depending on the tank size. Like RDAs, users build their own coils and wicks, but in RTAs, the e-liquid is supplied to the coil from the tank system. This makes RTAs very convenient, similar to many sub-ohm stock coil tanks. The standout feature of RTAs is their rebuildable nature, allowing users to fully customise their vaping experience.
RTAs come in single, dual, and even mesh coil options, catering to both MTL (mouth-to-lung) and DTL (direct-to-lung) vaping styles and everything in between. Mesh coil RTAs are more suited to advanced vapers, as they require careful setup to achieve optimal performance. If you're new to rebuildables, it's recommended to start with a standard coil option to build your knowledge before attempting mesh coils. RTAs provide significantly more control and customisation compared to standard stock coil tanks.
What are the Best RTA’s of 2024?
There are a vast amount of RTA’s on the market at the moment but, I will list the three most popular brands and models that our staff have picked out as their favourites to look out for in 2024.
Valkyrie XL RTA by Vaperz Cloud
This is David's personal favourite RTA of 2024, he's no stranger to large atomisers but, this is the biggest RTA he own at a whopping 40mm, it’s almost comically large and that’s what he loves about it, it’s excess, it’s unnecessary but, he love it all the same. As you may have guessed you can fit some equally large coils into this RTA and its rivals smoke machines for the vapour output! Of course due to its massive size no ordinary mod will accommodate it, so David's paired it with the equally impressive; Hammer of God 400 Box Mod Shinobi Edition which is also made by Vaperz Cloud.

Dead Rabbit 3 RTA 2024 Edition by Hellvape
This is a particular favourite with Dom, he loves to build his own coils and prefers a more open airflow that the Dead Rabbit 3 can offer. The simple yet effective dual coil postless deck offers ample room for larger coils, which in turn means massive clouds! Dom loves to pair the Dead Rabbit 3 RTA 2024 Edition with his matte black Vaperz Cloud Odin 2.
Blaze Solo RTA by THC x Mike Vapes
Another popular choice in the office is the Blaze Solo, a single coil flavour chaser's dream. Expertly crafted by THC (ThunderHead Creations) its innovative ‘W’ shaped postless deck makes installing coils a breeze and due to the airflow design that maximises flavour, this one will be a hard one to put down. Being a 25mm RTA it will fit most modern mods with ease and due to it being a single coil RTA it will work well with single battery mods which is ideal if you’re out-and-about. Mike Vapes is a very popular YouTube vape reviewer and has been around the industry for many years now so he knows how to design a product that has mass appeal and the Blaze range of RTAs are just another of a long line of products Mike Vapes has made over the years, you can’t go wrong with a Mike Vapes product.
Why Choose an RTA?
RTAs are very versatile, RTAs allow users to build their own coils and wicks, offering complete control over the vaping experience. You can tailor the resistance, wicking material, and coil configuration to suit your preferences. Building your own coils is generally more economical than purchasing pre-made coils. Over time, the savings on coil replacements can be significant.
RTAs typically deliver enhanced performance with greater vapour production and more consistent hits. Advanced users can experiment with different builds to achieve the desired performance. RTAs are available in various configurations, including single-coil, dual-coil, and mesh coil options. This versatility allows users to choose an RTA that best suits their vaping style, whether it's MTL (mouth-to-lung) or DTL (direct-to-lung).
RTAs FAQ
What is an RTA?
An RTA, or Rebuildable Tank Atomiser, is a type of vaping device that combines a rebuildable coil deck with a tank for holding e-liquid, allowing users to build their own coils and wicks while having the convenience of a tank system.
How do I build a coil for my RTA?
Building a coil for an RTA involves wrapping wire around a coil jig or similar tool, installing the coil on the build deck, securing it with screws, and then threading and trimming the wick. Specific steps can vary depending on the RTA model.
What is the difference between an RTA and an RDA?
The main difference is that RTAs have a tank to hold e-liquid, while RDAs (Rebuildable Dripping Atomisers) require users to drip e-liquid directly onto the coils. RTAs offer more convenience, while RDAs are often favoured for flavour and vapour production.
What are the benefits of using an RTA?
Benefits include the ability to customise coils and wicks, better flavour and vapour production, cost savings over pre-made coils, and the convenience of a tank system.
Can I use an RTA if I am new to vaping?
RTAs are generally more suited to experienced vapers due to the need for coil building and wicking knowledge. Beginners might prefer starting with simpler devices like sub-ohm tanks before progressing to RTAs.
What are the best materials for wicking an RTA?
The most common wicking material is organic cotton due to its excellent absorption and flavour delivery. Some users also experiment with materials like rayon or silica.
How do I prevent leaking in my RTA?
Proper wicking is key to preventing leaks. Ensure the wick is snug but not too tight in the coil, and make sure it fully covers the juice channels without blocking airflow. Checking for loose parts and ensuring the tank is properly assembled also helps.
How often should I change the coils and wicks in my RTA?
The frequency of coil and wick changes depends on usage and the type of e-liquid. Generally, it's recommended to change the wick every few days and the coil every couple of weeks, or when you notice a decline in flavour or vapour production.
What is the difference between single-coil and dual-coil RTAs?
Single-coil RTAs have one coil, offering simplicity and ease of building, while dual-coil RTAs have two coils, providing more vapour and flavour but requiring more skill to build and wick correctly.
What should I do if my RTA isn't producing enough vapour?
If your RTA isn't producing enough vapour, check the coil resistance and ensure it's within the recommended range for your mod, verify that the wick is properly saturated, increase the wattage (within safe limits), and make sure there are no airflow blockages.
