A little bit of regular maintenance goes a long way in extending the life of your vape.
After seeing countless customers bin perfectly good devices that just needed a proper clean, I thought it was worth putting together this guide on how to keep your Vaporesso kit in top condition.
Whether you've got an XROS pod system or a Gen series mod, these simple maintenance tips will help you avoid common issues and get the most out of your device.
Regular Cleaning: The Basics
Regular cleaning prevents build-up of e-liquid residue, pocket lint, and other gunk that can affect performance.
Here's how to keep your device fresh without damaging it:
For Pod Systems (XROS, Vibe, Luxe Pod Kits)
- Disconnect the pod from the battery - This prevents liquid getting into the electronics.
- Wipe down the connection points - Use a cotton bud or tissue to clean where the pod meets the battery. This is where most performance issues start.
- Clean the airflow holes - These can get clogged with condensation and dust. A gentle blow or carefully used cotton bud sorts them out.
- Wipe the mouthpiece - This collects lip residue and dust. A quick wipe with a tissue is usually enough.
- Check and clean the filling port - Residue here can affect how well your pod seals, leading to leaks.
This quick 30-second routine done once a week prevents the most common pod issues.
For Sub-ohm Kits (Gen, Armour)
- Remove the tank and batteries - Never clean with components still connected.
- Clean the 510 connection - This is the threaded bit where your tank attaches. Use a dry cotton bud to remove any liquid or debris.
- Wipe down the mod body - A slightly damp cloth works for the exterior, but be careful not to get moisture in any openings.
- Clean battery contacts - Gently wipe the battery contacts with a dry cloth. Never use water here.
- Check and clean the tank threading - Gunk builds up in the threads and can cause connection issues.
Deep Cleaning When Needed
Every month or so, a more thorough clean helps prevent more serious issues:
Tank/Pod Deep Clean
- Empty completely of any e liquid.
- Disassemble as much as possible - For tanks, remove the coil first (never wash coils).
- Rinse with warm (not hot) water - No soap needed, it can leave residue.
- Blow through the airflow channels to clear any water.
- Leave to dry completely - This is crucial. I leave mine overnight to be sure.
- Reassemble and refill only when bone dry.
For pods with built-in coils, you can rinse only if you're changing the coil afterwards. Otherwise, just wipe clean as best you can.
Battery Care: The Lifeblood of Your Device
Proper battery care not only extends your device's life but is also crucial for safety.
For Internal Battery Devices
- Don't let it completely drain before charging - Lithium batteries prefer shallow discharge cycles.
- Don't leave on charge overnight - Once it's full, unplug it. Overcharging can degrade battery life.
- Use the correct charging cable - Preferably the one that came with your device or a good quality replacement.
- Check for heat during charging - If it gets unusually warm, disconnect immediately.
For External Battery Mods
- Inspect battery wraps regularly for tears or damage - Never use damaged batteries.
- Use married pairs in dual battery devices - Keep them together for their entire life cycle.
- Store loose batteries in a battery case - Never in your pocket with keys or change.
- Clean battery contacts with a dry cloth occasionally.
When to Replace Parts
Knowing when to swap out components saves you from poor performance and potential issues:
Coil/Pod Replacement Signs
- Burnt taste - Once this happens, the coil is done for.
- Diminished flavour - If flavour drops off noticeably, it's time for a change.
- Reduced vapour production - Less cloud usually means a tired coil.
- Gurgling or leaking - Often indicates the coil's cotton is breaking down.
- Dark, gunked-up coil - Visual inspection can tell you when it's time.
Most Vaporesso coils last 1-2 weeks, depending on your juice and vaping habits. Don't try to stretch them too far - a fresh coil makes a world of difference.
Device Replacement Considerations
Even the main device needs replacement eventually. Consider upgrading when:
- Battery no longer holds charge well - Internal batteries typically last 300-500 charge cycles.
- Buttons become unreliable - Worn buttons can cause misfires or non-firing.
- Screen issues or power inconsistencies - These suggest circuit board problems.
- Physical damage to important components like the charging port.
Storage Tips
How you store your device when not in use affects its longevity:
- Store upright when possible to prevent leaking.
- Keep at room temperature - Avoid extreme heat or cold.
- For long-term storage (more than a few weeks):
- Remove batteries from external battery mods
- Store with half-full battery (not empty, not full)
- Empty tank/pod of e liquid to prevent coil degradation
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
