Vaporesso Armour G Pod Vape Kit

The Armour G is an 80W pod mod with a 3000mAh battery built in, a 0.96 inch screen and a fire button. It takes the GTX coil platform, which is what lets one device cover a tight cigarette-style draw and a full lung draw depending on which coil goes in.

It ships as the DTL kit: a 0.2 ohm GTX coil fitted, a 0.4 ohm spare in the box, plus the pod, a Type-C cable and a manual. Ten colours are stocked.

The Armour GS is the same idea with a removable 18650 battery instead of a built-in one, and everything else in the Armour range is listed separately.

Mega Batt: 3000mAh in a Compact Body

Mega Batt is Vaporesso's name for the battery technology, and the point of it is the size. 3000mAh usually means a chunky device, and the Armour G keeps it to 113 x 38 x 28mm with a leather panel wrapped round an aluminium frame. That is the difference between a pod mod you carry and one you leave on a desk.

Four-Level Top Airflow

The airflow is at the top and clicks through four positions rather than sliding freely, so it holds its setting. Wide open suits the 0.2 ohm coil for a lung draw, the middle positions tighten it up for the 0.4 ohm, and fully closed with a mouth to lung pod and a higher resistance coil gives a cigarette-style pull. Top airflow also keeps e-liquid away from the air slot.

The 0.96 Inch TFT Screen

A 0.96 inch colour screen sits above the fire button, with an LED light alongside it. It shows the wattage, the coil resistance and the battery, which is what you actually need when you are matching a wattage to a coil. It is the part that makes the Armour G pod mod a step up from a kit that fires on an inhale and tells you nothing.

Is the Armour G Good for Beginners?

It depends what you are coming from. The honest answer is that it is a step up rather than a first device.

There is a screen, a fire button, a wattage to set and a coil to fit yourself. None of that is difficult, but it is more to learn than a kit that fires when you inhale. If this is your first vape, a pod kit with the coil sealed inside is a gentler place to start.

Where the Armour G earns its place is as a second device, or a first one for somebody who already vapes and wants more battery, more power and the option to change how it draws. A single 3000mAh charge covers a day comfortably at DTL wattages, which is the thing most people upgrade for.

What E-Liquid to Use With the Armour G

The coil decides the vape juice you need, not the device itself. The Armour G kit arrives with two DTL coils, so out of the box it wants a higher VG e-liquid.

On the two coils supplied, that means a higher VG shortfill.

Fit a mouth to lung coil instead and it wants a nic salt vape liquid. Putting 20mg nic salt on the 0.2 ohm at 55W would be unpleasant and wasteful, which is the mistake worth avoiding.

Which Coils and Pods the Armour G Takes

It requires GTX coils, sold five to a pack, and the Armour G pod. Both are separate purchases once the two supplied coils are used up.

• Coils: any GTX coil, matched to the pod you are using
• Pod: the Armour G and GS pod, which comes in an MTL and a DTL version

The pod is shared with the Armour GS, so a pack bought for one drops onto the other. The DTL pod takes the lower resistances and the MTL pod the higher ones, which is how one device covers both styles.

How Long the 3000mAh Battery Lasts

The Armour G's charge will last longer than a pod kit but less than a day at the top of the wattage range, because wattage is what drains the battery faster than time.

At mouth to lung wattages of 10W to 16W, 3000mAh is comfortably more than a day's worth of charge. At 55W on the 0.2 ohm coil it will not be, and heavy lung vapers should expect to charge daily. Charging is Type-C at 5V/2A and the cable is in the box.

Filling It and Changing the Coil

The pod fills from the top and the coil pushes into the base, so neither job needs a tool.

Filling the pod

1. Pull the silicone plug out of the fill port.
2. Fill through the hole.
3. Press the plug back in.
4. Wait five minutes before the first draw so the coil soaks.

Changing the coil

1. Lift the pod off the device.
2. Pull the used coil out of the base. Nothing screws in.
3. Push the new coil in until it seats, then prime it as above.
