OXVA NeXlim 2 Review: The Owner's Verdict

The OXVA NeXlim 2 is the best pod kit OXVA has made, and I say that as someone with one in his pocket right now. I own Ecigone, I make no secret of being an OXVA fan, and the NeXlim 2 has been my daily kit since it arrived. So this is my verdict rather than a spec sheet readout, and like most honest verdicts it has a twist: I love this kit, and I still would not tell a happy NeXlim 1 owner to rush out and replace theirs.

My verdict, the short version

Both halves of that are true at once. For me the upgrade comes down to two things:

1. The battery, which is bigger and charges very fast
2. The new pods, which are the best flavour OXVA has produced to date. 

The screen is a nice step up too. But it's still not a complete overhaul of the first NeXlim, because it does not need to be. Vaping hardware has come a long way, and the honest truth of the market right now is that the jump from one generation to the next gets smaller every year. Until something genuinely new arrives, no update is going to feel like a revolution. A shop that tells you otherwise is selling to you, not advising you.

What it is like to live with

The flavour - where the upgrade shines

The new UNITECH 3.0 cartridges are the change you taste, and I am not going to dress it up in marketing language: the flavour from the new pods is much better, and it holds deep into the pod's life rather than fading after the first few fills.

OXVA rates the dual-mesh design at double the flavour and double the coil life, and rates its Super Pulse System at 200% atomisation. I cannot measure percentages like those, so I will not repeat them as mine; what I can tell you is the difference against the old pods is real, and it is the single best reason this kit exists.

The charging - the bit that changes your routine

The 2000mAh battery is the biggest in the NeXlim line, and the 3A USB-C charging reaches about 80% in twenty minutes by OXVA's own figures.

My day-to-day version: the charging is very fast, fast enough that mine gets topped up while the kettle boils rather than parked on a cable overnight. Eco mode stretches a charge further, and Boost warms the draw when I want it.

The screen and the little things

The 0.85 inch colour screen is a real improvement in use: wattage, battery, coil resistance and puff count in one glance, no menu digging. The ten screen themes that unlock at random are a novelty rather than a feature, and I will say so rather than pretend otherwise. Build-wise the leather finishes feel far more expensive than £25.99, and at 88.5g the kit is solid in hand rather than featherweight.

The pods work both ways

Good news for whichever kit you own: the pods swap in both directions. Old UNITECH 2.0 pods fit the NeXlim 2, and the new UNITECH 3.0 cartridges fit the original NeXlim too. So nothing in your drawer goes to waste when you upgrade. Just as honestly, a NeXlim 1 owner can try the biggest part of this upgrade, the flavour, for the price of a pod rather than the price of a kit. That is the kind of thing I would tell you over the counter, so it belongs in the review.

Which pod should you use in it?

The kit ships with the two most useful answers already in the box: a 0.6 ohm pre-installed and a 0.8 ohm spare.

• 0.6 ohm UNITECH 3.0 (pre-installed) - the RDL pick: a warmer, airier draw with more vapour, best with 50/50 liquids at lower strengths
• 0.8 ohm UNITECH 3.0 (in the box) - the all-rounder that covers RDL and MTL, and the one most vapers should start on
• 1.2 ohm UNITECH 3.0 (sold separately) - the tight, cigarette-style MTL draw for 10mg and 20mg nic salts

Replacement NeXlim UNITECH 3.0 pods are the ones to reorder; OXVA rates each cartridge at up to 30 top-fills before the coil fades, and your older NeXlim pods keep working in the meantime.

Who should buy it - and who should not

Buy the NeXlim 2 if you are new to OXVA, replacing a tired kit, or you want the strongest flavour and fastest charging OXVA currently sells. That is the exact case where I say yes without hesitating.

Keep your original NeXlim if it is working and you are happy with it. I use the 2 every day, I prefer it, and I am still giving you that advice with a straight face: the first NeXlim reaches the same 40W, the pods swap both ways, and why fix what is not broken? Stick a UNITECH 3.0 pod in your current kit for the flavour upgrade, and make the kit decision whenever yours gives up.

Want it smaller or cheaper? The NeXlim 2 Mini takes the same UNITECH 3.0 pods in a 59g body at £13.99, with up to seven days per charge in Eco mode by OXVA's rating. No screen, a 30W cap. There is one honest packing note: the Mini box has no charging cable, so keep a spare USB-C lead handy.
