Are OXVA Vapes MTL or DTL? Every Kit Explained

Most OXVA vapes are mouth to lung (MTL) kits that open up to a restricted direct lung (RDL) draw. Every kit in the OXVA Xlim series and the NeXlim range covers MTL and RDL, and the VPrime and VPrime 2 add full direct to lung (DTL).

Which one you get depends on the pod you fit and how far you open the airflow. Every OXVA kit has an airflow slider, so you can tighten or loosen the draw yourself.

What MTL, RDL and DTL Mean

Three ways to inhale. Each changes how the draw feels, how much vapour you get and what nicotine strength works.

MTL: Mouth to Lung

The same as smoking a cigarette. Vapour goes into your mouth first, then you breathe it down. Tight airflow, not much vapour, and you can use higher nicotine, 10mg to 20mg nic salt, without it being too much. If you are coming off cigarettes, this is the style you want.

RDL: Restricted Direct to Lung

The middle ground. More air than MTL, less than DTL. You still inhale to the lungs, but there is some resistance in the draw. It works well at 6mg to 12mg, and a lot of vapers settle here because it gives enough vapour to feel satisfying without filling the room.

DTL: Direct to Lung

Skip the mouth and breathe straight into your lungs. Big clouds, wide open airflow, and the nicotine drops right down to 3mg or 6mg freebase. Vapers who have been off cigarettes for a while often drift towards DTL for the vapour and flavour.

Which OXVA Vapes Are MTL or DTL

The Xlim and NeXlim kits are MTL to RDL, and the VPrime kits go all the way to DTL. These are OXVA's top outputs:

Every Xlim and NeXlim kit covers MTL and RDL through the pod and the airflow, but none of them go into full DTL. The VPrime and VPrime 2 are the OXVA kits for DTL, at up to 60W.

How Pod Resistance Changes the Draw

The pod you use matters more than the kit. Lower resistance pods take more wattage and give more vapour. Higher resistance pods use less power and give a tighter draw.

NeXlim pods take more power than Xlim pods. OXVA set the NeXlim 0.6 ohm at 20 to 40W, the 0.8 ohm at 12 to 32W and the 1.2 ohm at 10 to 25W.

Match the pod to the strength. 20mg nic salt through a DTL pod at 60W is far too much nicotine per puff, and 3mg freebase in a 1.2 ohm pod feels like vaping thin air.

OXVA Airflow Control

Every OXVA kit has an airflow slider on the side. Close it down for a tighter MTL draw and open it up for a looser RDL or DTL draw.

On the Xlim Pro 3 the slider has a noticeable range. Fully closed on a 0.8 ohm pod gives a draw close to a cigarette, and opening it halfway on a 0.6 ohm pod loosens it up for RDL.

The NeXlim 2 and NeXlim 2 Mini have a 3-level airflow that clicks into set positions. At 40W on the 0.6 ohm pod with the airflow open, the NeXlim 2 sits on the border of RDL and loose MTL, which makes it the NeXlim to try if you want both styles.

Which OXVA Vape Is Closest to a Cigarette

If you are coming from cigarettes or disposables, you want MTL, the draw closest to smoking.

Any Xlim kit with a 0.8 or 1.2 ohm pod and the airflow closed gives that tight, cigarette style draw. Use 20mg nic salt at 50/50 VG/PG for the closest match to a cigarette's nicotine hit.

Disposables like Elf Bar and Lost Mary are MTL too. If you are moving to refillable, the Xlim range gives you the same draw, with better flavour, and it costs less to keep going.

Which OXVA Vapes Are DTL

The VPrime and VPrime 2. Both go up to 60W and both fire when you draw, which OXVA call auto draw DTL.

The VPrime gets there with its 0.2 ohm pod at 45 to 60W. The VPrime 2 uses dual mesh pods, and in Boost mode OXVA rate its 0.4 ohm pod at about 0.2 ohm for 40 to 60W.

Xlim kits stop at 30W and NeXlim kits at 40W, and their pods go no lower than 0.4 ohm on the Xlim and 0.6 ohm on the NeXlim. That gives a loose RDL draw, but not full DTL clouds.

For DTL, use a high VG shortfill at 70/30 or 80/20, with 3mg to 6mg freebase nicotine. Nic salt at DTL wattage hits too hard for most people.

OXVA VPrime vs Xlim Pro 3 and NeXlim 2

The VPrime 2 is the DTL kit, with a 3400mAh battery and up to 60W, and it weighs 150g. The Xlim Pro 3 is a 77.4g MTL to RDL kit with a 1500mAh battery, and the NeXlim 2 sits between them at 40W with a 2000mAh battery.
