Reviewing The Vaporesso XROS Pro 2: Two Weeks of Daily Use

Our verdict: the XROS Pro 2 is the Vaporesso to buy for battery life. Over two weeks of daily use, its 2000mAh battery lasted a heavy vaper a full day. It is the biggest battery in the Vaporesso XROS range.

This is a hands-on review of the Vaporesso XROS Pro 2 pod kit after two weeks of daily use.

The headline is a 2000mAh battery in a 70g body. I have not come across a bigger battery in a pod kit this light. I tested it back to back against my daily OXVA kits. It has earned a permanent spot in the rotation. Here's what I found.

Battery: The Reason You'd Buy the XROS Pro 2

The XROS Pro 2 lasts me a full day, and I'm a heavy vaper. With most pod kits I was swapping to a second device by mid-afternoon. If I forget to charge it overnight, it'll usually survive my morning coffee too. That just doesn't happen with 1200 to 1500mAh kits.

Vaporesso's own lab figure is 2 days of vaping from a 30 minute charge. That is a lot more than I get as a heavy vaper. Vaporesso call the 2000mAh battery the largest in its category.

Super Pulse mode is doing real work here. Vaporesso say it adjusts the output as the battery drains, to keep it consistent from full to low. The usual problem, where the last 20% of battery gives weaker, flavourless hits, hasn't happened to me. My last puff before charging hits the same as the first one of the day. I've owned kits that claim this and don't deliver. This one does.

The trade-off is charging current. The Pro 2 charges at 5V/2A over USB-C, and from flat it took me about an hour to fill. The Vaporesso XROS 5 pod kit charges at 3A, and Vaporesso's figure for it is 80% in 20 minutes. But I'm charging once a day instead of twice, so it balances out.

COREX 3.0 Pods: Real Improvement or Marketing?

I vape Bombo Master Custard, one of the custard e-liquids I keep coming back to. I get through at least a pod's worth a day, so I notice flavour changes quickly. The COREX 3.0 pods are better than the 2.0 versions I've used. Cleaner and more defined: you pick up the custard notes and the pastry base separately instead of it all merging into one.

Vaporesso claim 40% better aroma reproduction with COREX 3.0. That is measured against their original Morph Mesh design, not the 2.0 pods. I can't measure that. But the improvement is noticeable enough that I'd choose these over the older pods every time.

Two things worth knowing:

• You only get a wattage setting (15 to 30W in 0.5W steps) with the 0.4Ω pod. Other pods give you ECO, NOR and PWR modes instead. Still useful, just less precise.
• Vaporesso say the Pro 2 fits the entire XROS pod series. If you're upgrading from an XROS 4 or XROS 5, bring your spare pods with you.

I've been using the 0.6Ω pod with nic salts, and it gives a smooth MTL to light RDL draw. The 0.4Ω is more open if you want a warmer, cloudier hit.

The current pods are the Vaporesso XROS COREX 3.0 pods.

Screen, Lock and Day-to-Day Use

The 0.96 inch TFT screen is easy to read and does the job without being over the top. Battery, power setting and puffs are all there at a glance. Vaporesso add daily and weekly puff charts if you want to track your usage. Six themes if you care about that sort of thing. I use the plain Meter theme.

There's no physical lock switch, despite Vaporesso's "Lock Switch" headline. Both locks are in the settings menu. To lock the screen, click 4 times within 2 seconds, select SCREEN LK, then hold for 2 seconds. Or select BUTTON ON/OFF and hold for 2 seconds. That turns off the fire button so it can't fire in your pocket. To unlock the screen, press the button 4 times within 2 seconds. A small thing, but I've burnt through pods in my jeans with kits that don't have one.

The click layout is the same as the XROS 5. So our XROS 5 settings guide mostly works for the Pro 2 too. The differences are small. The Pro 2 calls its lock option SCREEN LK and adds PUFF HISTORY to the menu. Its six themes also have different names.

The magnesium alloy body feels more solid than most pod kits I've used. Vaporesso's spec table says 70g, and at that weight you forget it's in your pocket. No complaints on build quality after two weeks of daily use.

XROS Pro 2 vs XROS 5: Which One?

This is what most people want to know. Both kits go up to 30W with the 0.4Ω pod. Both take XROS pods, and both have adjustable airflow. They're more alike than different. Here's where the comparison differs.

Pick the XROS Pro 2 if you want:

• A bigger battery: 2000mAh against 1500mAh.
• A lighter kit despite the bigger battery: 70g against 73.7g, on Vaporesso's figures.
• A slightly bigger screen: 0.96 inch against 0.88 inch.
• Puff history and Super Pulse.

Pick the XROS 5 if you want:

• A higher charging current: 3A against 2A.
• A slimmer, flatter kit for tight pockets: 24.5 x 14.5mm against 25.7 x 18.4mm.
• The 0.6Ω and 0.8Ω pods in the UK kit, which make a good MTL starter setup.

Having used both, I'd say the Pro 2 is the better kit overall. But if charging speed matters more to you than battery size, the XROS 5 is still excellent.

XROS Pro 2 vs the Original XROS Pro

A lot of people searching for the Pro 2 are coming from the original XROS Pro. Vaporesso now call that the first generation. On Vaporesso's figures, the Pro 2 changes:

• Battery: 2000mAh against 1200mAh, which Vaporesso put at 67% more capacity.
• Weight: 70g against 86g.
• Screen: a 0.96 inch colour TFT screen against a 0.42 inch OLED.
• Lock: the original Pro has a slide lock on the side. The Pro 2 locks from the settings menu instead.

Both have Super Pulse and take XROS pods, so your old Pro pods carry over.

How It Stacks Up Against OXVA

I'm an OXVA loyalist. My Xlim Pro 2 DNA has been my daily for months. The XROS Pro 2 doesn't replace it, but it's the closest any Vaporesso kit has come. Battery life on the Pro 2 is better and build quality is comparable. The COREX 3.0 pods are closing the gap on OXVA's flavour too. I'd still give OXVA a slight edge on pod flavour, maybe 10 against 9.5. It's close enough that you'd struggle to tell blind.

The Pro 2 now lives alongside my Xlim kits in daily rotation. For an OXVA fanboy to say that, the kit's doing something right.

XROS Pro 2 Review: The Verdict

The XROS Pro 2 is one of the strongest refillable pod kits I've used recently. The battery is the standout, but the pods, the screen and the build all back it up. If you're on an older XROS, this is the upgrade. Against the XROS 5, the Pro 2 wins on battery and weight. The XROS 5 wins on charging current and pocket size.
