How Refillable Vape Kits Work
A refillable vape kit is a reusable, rechargeable vape built around an open pod or tank. Open the fill port, add e-liquid from a bottle, snap it shut, and the same pod or tank serves you for weeks before the coil or refillable pod is swapped out. Reusable vapes and rechargeable vapes fall under the same category - the labels differ but the kit works identically.
Three working parts, regardless of which type you buy. The battery device charges via USB-C in 30 to 90 minutes. The pod or tank holds e-liquid up to 2ml under UK TPD rules and houses the coil. The coil is the wear part and lasts 1 to 2 weeks of normal use.
Once set up: simply refill the pod from a bottle every day or two, swap the coil every 1 to 2 weeks, recharge the battery overnight. That is the entire routine for a refillable vape kit in the UK.
Refillable Vape Kits After the Disposable Ban
The 1 June 2025 single-use disposable ban changed how the UK buys vape kits. Refillable vape kits work with any 10ml bottle on the shelf - thousands of flavours, any nicotine strength from 0mg up to 20mg. Prefilled pod kits sit alongside but lock you into 20mg nicotine and a smaller flavour range, typically sweet fruits. The June 2025 ban explainer covers the regulatory background in full.

Bottle nic salts average a small fraction of the per-ml cost of prefilled pods. Across a year of normal use that adds up to a meaningful saving with a refillable vape, which is why most ex-disposable users move to refillable within the first three months. Disposable Flavours in Refillable Vape Kits
Every major disposable brand now makes 10ml nic salt bottles with the same flavours their disposables had. ELFLIQ covers the Elf Bar flavours. Lost Mary MaryLiq covers Lost Mary.
Elux Legend Nic Salts covers Elux. SKE Crystal Bar Juice covers the Crystal flavours.
Same flavour profiles, same manufacturers, a 10ml bottle that fills any open refillable vape kit. Going refillable does not mean losing your favourite flavours - you just buy them in a bottle and fill the pod yourself. Browse all bar salt e-liquids to find your old disposable flavour.
Nicotine Strengths: 0mg to 20mg
The big difference between refillable and prefilled. Prefilled pods come loaded at 20mg and that is the only option across the majority. Refillable vapes let you pick the strength every refill - 0mg, 3mg, 5mg, 10mg or 20mg.
Start at 20mg, drop to 10mg when you are ready, then 5mg, 3mg, or 0mg if that is where you are headed. Same refillable vape kit the whole way through. 0mg vapers can run shortfill e-liquid in a sub-ohm refillable vape kit, or pick a 0mg 50/50 bottle in a pod kit.
Bottle pricing is the same regardless of strength. Trying 10mg instead of 20mg does not cost extra. The nic salt strengths guide covers which strength suits which background.
Budget Refillable Vape Kits
Entry-level refillable vape kits sit at the lower price tier and last well over a year with basic care. Cheap refillable vape kits share the same UK TPD specs (2ml pod, USB-C charge) as kits at twice the price - reusable rechargeable vapes at every price point.
A refillable disposable vape is another name for this category - a rechargeable device you refill from a bottle rather than bin.
Go with brands that have coils you can actually get hold of long-term. OXVA, Vaporesso, Uwell and Voopoo all keep replacement coils and refillable vape pods on the shelf year round. A cheap rechargeable vape from a no-name brand might save you a fiver upfront, but if you cannot find coils in three months you are buying another kit.
Refillable Vape Pens: Compact Refillable Vape Kits
Two refillable formats often confused. A refillable vape pen is the longer, cylindrical shape - bigger battery, sub-ohm or RDL coils, takes 70/30 shortfill e-liquid for more vapour. A refillable vape kit in pod form is the boxy compact shape - small battery, MTL coils, takes 50/50 or nic salt 10ml bottles for a tight pocket-sized draw.
Pod kits suit nic salts and a cigarette-style inhale. Refillable vape pens suit higher VG e-liquid and a chest-style inhale. If you want something pocket-sized, go for a pod kit.
If you want bigger clouds and longer battery life, a more powerful refillable vape kit is the answer - a refillable vape pen or sub-ohm kit is the better pick. Both formats are rechargeable vapes - same refillable principle, different scale.
How to Fill a Refillable Vape
Thirty seconds once you have done it a couple of times:
- Pull the pod or tank off the device.
- Open the fill port (silicone plug, side door or screw-off top depending on the refillable vape kit).
- Add the e-liquid through the fill port - stop at the max fill line, never higher.
- Close the port and slot the pod back into the device.
- If you have just fitted a new coil, let it sit for five minutes so the cotton soaks through before the first puff.
The last step stops dry hits. Skip it and you will taste burnt cotton on the first few puffs, which means a wasted coil within the first hour.
50/50 nic salts and bar salt e-liquids work best in a refillable vape kit with MTL coils. Refillable vape pens with sub-ohm coils need higher VG shortfills at 0mg or 3mg. Match the liquid to the coil and you will not have any issues.

Refillable Vape Terms Explained
Key terms for refillable vape buyers covering MTL, DTL, TPD and coil types:
-
Refillable - you add your own e-liquid from a bottle. Opposite of prefilled.
-
Rechargeable - the battery charges via USB-C. Almost all current refillable vape kits are USB-C now.
-
Pod - the small plastic refill container that slots onto a pod kit. Holds e-liquid and the coil.
-
MTL (mouth to lung) - cigarette-style draw. Tight, into the mouth first.
-
DTL (direct to lung) - straight inhale into the lungs. Bigger clouds, more flavour.
-
Nic salt - smoother form of nicotine, sold in 10ml bottles at 5mg, 10mg or 20mg, for pod kits.
-
Shortfill - 100ml bottle of high VG e-liquid for sub-ohm kits, 0mg or topped up with a nic shot.
-
TPD 2ml - UK legal maximum pod or tank capacity for any retail vape.
Coil Life and Replacement Costs
One coil head lasts most refillable vape kit users one to two weeks of normal use before flavour fades. Three signs the coil is on its way out: harsh burnt taste on the inhale, muted or muffled flavour even from a fresh fill, or gurgling and leaking around the pod. Once any of those appear, the coil head is done.
Coil packs typically come in 3-packs or 5-packs depending on the brand - most come with multiple coils per pack. OXVA, Vaporesso, Voopoo and Geekvape all keep replacement coils and pods stocked year round.

All refillable vape kits stocked are genuine, sourced from authorised UK distributors, MHRA-notified and TPD compliant. For help with UK vape rules see the UK vaping laws guide. Orders dispatch same-day from the Chesterfield warehouse, 7 days a week.
