Vaporesso Luxe XR Max 2: 80W Pod Mod Kit

The Luxe XR Max 2 is the 80W pod mod at the top of the Vaporesso Luxe range.

It puts a 3200mAh battery, the AXON chipset and a 0.96 inch TFT screen behind the GTX coil platform, so one device covers a tight mouth to lung draw on nic salt through to sub-ohm clouds on shortfill.

The Vaporesso Luxe XR Max 2 kit arrives ready to vape. Two pods come in the box and both have a coil fitted already: a DTL pod on a 0.2 ohm GTX dual mesh coil, and an MTL pod on a 0.8 ohm GTX mesh coil. UK kits take 2ml pods, complying with TPD rules.

The AXON Chipset

AXON is the chip behind the wattage control, and it is what separates the Vaporesso Luxe XR Max 2 from a kit that simply fires. It holds the output where you set it as the battery drains, so 40W at the end of a charge is the same 40W it was at the start. It also reads the coil and caps the wattage, so a 1.2 ohm mouth to lung coil cannot be pushed to a setting that would burn it.

The 0.96 Inch TFT Screen

The screen shows the wattage, the coil resistance, the battery level and the mode, with three themes and two RGB lights to choose between. The practical value is the coil resistance: when you swap between the MTL and DTL pods, the number on screen is how you confirm the kit has read the new coil before you start adjusting anything.

Two Pods in one Kit Box

Most kits give you one pod. The Vaporesso Luxe XR Max 2 pod vape kit arrives with two, each with a coil already fitted:

1. A DTL pod on a 0.2 ohm GTX dual mesh
2. An MTL pod on a 0.8 ohm GTX mesh

That means both vaping styles are covered on day one without buying anything else, and swapping between them is a matter of lifting one pod off and dropping the other on.

How Long the XR Max 2's 3200mAh Battery Lasts

It depends entirely on which coil is in and what the wattage it is set to. Here are the two bands Vaporesso themselves suggest.

1. The 0.8 ohm MTL coil wants 12W to 16W, the gentle end and the one that lasts.
2. The 0.2 ohm dual mesh DTL coil wants 45W to 60W, which is where a 3200mAh battery goes down in a day.

Charging is over USB-C at 5V/2A, with the battery level and the time remaining shown on the screen while it fills.

Vaporesso publish no charging time for this kit, so there is no figure quoted here.

Pulse, Eco and SMART Modes

Three modes sit on the AXON chipset, and these are Vaporesso's own descriptions of them rather than ours.

• Pulse Mode holds a constant voltage output, which Vaporesso say keeps flavour, throat hit and vapour temperature steady through the tank.
• Eco Mode is the standard wattage mode, set to suit the coil resistance, and Vaporesso say vaping time lasts longer on it than on Pulse.
• SMART turns on automatic power: fit a pod and the device picks the wattage for it.

Pods and Coils That Fit the Vaporesso Luxe XR Max 2

Almost everyone buys this kit the way it comes: an empty Luxe XR pod with a separate GTX coil dropped into it, so the pod is reused and only the coil is replaced. Spare Luxe XR pods come two to a pack and last a long time.

Which GTX coil depends on which of the two pods it goes in:

• The DTL pod takes 0.15, 0.2 and 0.3 ohm in both dual mesh and mesh, plus 0.4 and 0.6 ohm mesh.
• The MTL pod takes 0.6, 0.8 and 1.2 ohm mesh. GTX coils come five to a pack.

There is a second option that fewer people use. The kit will also take ready-filled Luxe X pods, where the coil is sealed inside the pod and there is nothing to fit. Vaporesso list the Luxe XR Max 2 as compatible with all Luxe X pods as well as Luxe XR empty pods.

That matters if you already own a Luxe X3, because the Luxe X pods you have will drop straight into a Max 2. It works the other way too, though the X3 is a 45W device so it takes the GTX coils from 0.3 ohm up rather than the whole range.

Vaporesso publish two figures for the GTX dual mesh coils, 25% aroma reproduction and 30% longer lifespan. They state no baseline for either, so take them as their numbers rather than as a measured comparison.

Airflow, and Whether It Auto-Draws

Airflow control on the XR Max 2 is a simple toggle on the side of the battery rather than a ring on the pod. Vaporesso describe its range as mouth to lung through to direct to lung, and publish no numbers for it.

• Closed down, with the 0.8 ohm coil in, it suits a cigarette-style pull on nic salt e-liquid.
• Open, with the 0.2 ohm coil in, it suits a higher VG shortfill at 45W and up.

On auto-draw, the answer is no. The Luxe XR Max 2 fires on the button, and Vaporesso document no inhale activation for it.

The Buttons, How to Lock & Unlock

How to Unlock the Vaporesso Luxe XR Max 2

There is an unlock/lock button on the device itself. This is what stops the touch controls being nudged in a pocket or a bag. Simply use this button to lock and unlock a Vaporesso Luxe.

Other button functions

Five clicks of the power button turns the device on or off. Two clicks opens the menu. Three clicks unlocks the touch buttons so the wattage can be changed.

The menu also holds the three interface themes, screen brightness from 10 to 100, an on and off switch for the two RGB lights, and a puff counter that covers five days and can be reset.
