I've been through a few compact pod kits over the years, and honestly most of them blur together after a while. You pick one up, it's alright, the battery lasts a day or two, you move on. The Drag S3 is different though - it's stuck around in my daily rotation longer than I expected it to. Not because it's trying to do something revolutionary, but because it actually gets the fundamentals right. Whether I'm running nic salts or throwing shortfills at it, around 50W it's basically a mini vape kit in pod form - that's the best way to describe what this thing actually does.
What You're Getting
The Drag S3 is the built-in battery version of the Drag X3. If you want external batteries and more power, the X3 is your kit - that's the one we're taking to the Ohm Zone on November 2nd for giveaways. The S3 is built for people who just want something compact, charged, ready to go. That's been my approach with it.
Out of the box you get the device itself, a PnP X MTL cartridge, a 0.6ohm coil, and another 510 drip tip for swapping. Everything feels decent quality - nothing plasticky or cheap feeling about it. The zinc alloy and leather combo gives it that solid feel, and it's proper compact. It sits nicely in your hand without feeling fragile.
Here's what's actually in the box:
- Voopoo Drag S3 Device with 3000mAh built-in battery
- 1 x PnP X MTL Cartridge (pre-installed)
- 1 x PnP X 0.6ohm Coil
- 1 x 510 Drip Tip (removable for customization)
- USB Type-C Charging Cable
- User Manual
All the accessories are quality bits too - the drip tip isn't some flimsy plastic thing, the charging cable actually feels durable. You're not getting cheap filler here.
The Build and Design
The first thing that strikes you is how well balanced it is. It's not heavy, not light, just right. The leather grip on the side is a nice touch - gives you something to hold onto without it being slippery. You get seven colours available, so if you want something that actually looks decent, you've got options.
The 0.96-inch screen does what it needs to do. It's readable, shows your battery, wattage, resistance, puff count - all the essentials. Six themes to choose from if you care about that sort of thing. Honestly it's not flashy but that's the point. It just works, and that's exactly why I like it. No unnecessary features cluttering things up, no bloated menu system - just pick it up and vape.
Battery Life - Where It Counts
Here's where the S3 actually makes sense. That 3000mAh battery is 25% bigger than the S2 and it shows in real use. I'm a heavy vaper - I go through liquid constantly - and this gets me a full day easily. Most days I don't even need to think about charging until the evening. That's genuinely useful.
What's clever is how consistent it stays throughout the day. The battery doesn't start dropping your performance halfway through like some kits do. Your hits feel the same when you've got 100% as they do when you're at 20%. It's becoming more standard with the new wave of pod vapes coming out, but it's still not universal - so it's worth mentioning when a device gets it right.
Type-C charging is quick too. From dead to full is around 30 minutes. From nothing to usable is maybe 10-15 minutes if you're in a rush, which let's be honest, I always am. That's solid for a compact pod vape kit when you need a quick top-up before heading out.
The Superb PnP X Coils
The PnP X platform means you've got proper flexibility here and these coils are fantastic - some of the best on the market in my opinion. The coils that come with it - the 0.4ohm and 0.6ohm - are the baseline, but you can go 0.8ohm, 1.0ohm, or 1.2ohm depending on what you want. Lower resistance if you want more power and clouds, higher if you want a tighter draw.
I've been running the 0.6ohm mainly, around 25-28W depending on the liquid. The coils can take around 100ml before they start to get tired - Voopoo claim 100ml and honestly they genuinely get there or very close. Flavour's clean and consistent - nothing burnt or off about them. I've always loved these coils in the Voopoo E120 I used to have, and the S3 doesn't change that. They're some of the best stock vape coils on the market today.
The wattage range goes from 5W up to 60W, so there's room to experiment if you want to push it. Most people won't need to go that high on a compact kit, but it's there if you want it.
