Vape Error Codes Explained: E1, E2, H3 and Every Screen Message

Nine times out of ten it is the pod. Fresh ones fix it.
E2 on a vape almost always means a pod or coil connection fault, and the fix takes two minutes: pull the pod out, wipe the contacts dry, push it back in firmly. That single answer clears the most searched vape error in Britain more often than not. The rest of this guide covers every common code and screen message, what each one is trying to tell you, the fix ladder that clears nearly all of them, and the honest sign that the kit itself is faulty rather than the pod.
One honest thing before the table
Most vape brands never publish an official list of their error codes. The meanings below are the ones that hold across most modern kits, based on how the chipsets work and what thousands of vapers report - and they are consistent enough to troubleshoot by. Where your kit's manual says otherwise, the manual wins.
The error codes, decoded

The screen messages in plain words
- Check Atomizer / No Atomizer - the kit cannot see a coil. Reseat the pod or coil, clean the contacts, and check the coil is screwed or clicked fully home
- Atomizer Short / Short Protection - the coil is reading as a short circuit. Reseat first; if it persists on a second pod or coil, stop and swap the kit rather than forcing it
- Low Battery / Low Voltage - charge it, and if it happens minutes after a full charge, the battery is on its way out
- Max Puffs / Puff Limit - a session cutoff, not a fault; most clear after a short wait or a power cycle
E2, the big one, in full
E2 deserves its own section because it is the error British vapers search more than every other code combined. On almost every kit that shows it, E2 means the kit and the pod are not talking to each other properly - a connection fault rather than a breakage. Three things cause nearly every case.
- A poorly seated pod - the magnetic click does not always mean full contact. Pull it out and push it back in firmly.
- Liquid or grime on the contacts - condensation works its way onto the gold contacts over time. A ten-second wipe with a dry cloth or cotton bud clears it, on the pod side and inside the bay.
- A worn pod - the contacts on pods wear with every removal. If E2 shows on an old pod but not a fresh one, the pod was the fault.
The one E2 that matters: if the code comes back on TWO different pods with clean contacts, the fault is inside the kit - usually the connector pins - and no amount of pod-swapping fixes that. Within warranty, that is a replacement conversation with your retailer.

No screen? What the flashing lights mean
Half the kits in Britain have no screen at all - just an LED that blinks its complaints. The patterns vary by brand more than screen codes do, so treat these as the common conventions and your kit's manual as the final word.
- Three blinks when you puff - most commonly a connection or short protection, the LED version of E2. Same fix: reseat and clean
- Ten blinks or rapid flashing - most commonly low battery or a cutoff. Charge it properly and try again
- Blinking while vaping stops working - usually the puff-timer cutoff doing its job after a long draw. Wait a few seconds
- Light on charge that never settles - a charging fault: try another cable and another plug before blaming the kit

The fix ladder that clears nearly everything
Whatever the code says, this same five-step ladder resolves the overwhelming majority of vape errors, in order:
- Pull the pod or coil out and push it back in firmly - half of all errors are a seating problem
- Wipe the metal contacts on pod and kit with a dry cloth or cotton bud - liquid on the contacts is the other big cause
- Try a second pod or coil - this tells you whether the fault is the pod or the kit
- Charge the kit fully and power it off and on - voltage wobbles trigger more codes than people expect
- Check the wattage is inside the coil's printed range on adjustable kits
If the same code survives all five steps on two different pods, the fault is the kit, not the consumable - and if it is within warranty, that is a retailer conversation rather than a fixing job.

When the code means the kit is done
Error codes exist to protect the battery and the coil, and most are the kit doing its job. The genuine end-of-life signs are different: the same code returning on every pod, a battery that empties in hours, or a kit that stays dead after thirty minutes on a known-good cable. Stopping the codes before they start
- Wipe the pod contacts and the pod bay dry once a week - condensation on the contacts causes more errors than any true fault
- Seat pods with a firm push, and lift them straight out rather than twisting
- On coil kits, screw coils finger-tight - overtightening crushes the contact pin and undertightening breaks the circuit
- Keep the kit out of pockets full of keys and coins - dented pods and scratched contacts follow
- Charge with a decent cable before the battery hits empty; deep discharges are behind most voltage errors
