Sub-Ohm Vape Tank FAQs

10

Sub-ohm, MTL, rebuildable tanks

A sub-ohm tank uses coils below 1.0Ω resistance, typically 0.15-0.5Ω. Lower resistance allows more current flow, creating more heat and vapor. Designed for direct lung inhales with wide airflow. Produces warm, dense clouds with smooth draw. Requires more power (40-100W) and drinks e-liquid faster than MTL tanks.

High VG E-liquids are best. Minimum 70% VG for smooth vapour and proper wicking. 80/20 VG/PG is ideal. Use 3-6mg freebase nicotine maximum - higher creates harsh throat hits with large vapor volume. Shortfills (50ml 0mg + nicotine shot) are economical. Thin liquids (50/50) leak and spit in sub-ohm tanks.

3mg for regular users, 6mg maximum for those needing more. Never use high nicotine salts (10-20mg) - the massive vapour production delivers too much nicotine causing nausea and dizziness. Ex-smokers transitioning to sub-ohm should start at 6mg and reduce as needed.

Generally 1-2 weeks, but sweet e-liquids can kill them in 3-5 days. Clear fruit flavours might give 3 weeks. Higher wattage equals shorter life. Modern mesh coils last 20-30% longer than traditional wire coils. At £3-4 each, budget £8-12 monthly for sub-ohm vape coils.

Voopoo UForce-X Tank (great flavour), FumyTech Dragon Ball (biggest clouds), Vaperz Cloud Shift SubTank (versatility), GeekVape Zeus (reliability). All use mesh coils, have 2ml TPD capacity, and work 60-80W optimally. Coils widely available at £3-4 each.

Not recommended. Nic salts are designed for low-power MTL vaping. Sub-ohm's high vapour volume would deliver excessive nicotine too quickly. The smoothness of salts masks overconsumption until you feel sick. Stick to freebase nicotine for sub-ohm - it's self-limiting through throat hit.
Follow coil recommendations printed on them - typically "Best 65-75W" or similar. Start at the minimum recommended, increase gradually for preference. Too low causes spitting and flooding. Too high burns cotton prematurely. Sweet spot usually 70-80% of maximum rating for flavour and longevity balance.
Not ideal. They require understanding of battery safety, coil priming, wattage adjustment, and proper e-liquid selection. E-liquid consumption is 3-4x higher than MTL. Better suited for vapers who've mastered basics and want more vapour. Start with pod kits, upgrade to sub-ohm later.
Thinner e-liquid (high VG still thinner than 50/50 when heated), larger juice ports for high-power wicking, bigger o-rings with more failure points, and pressure changes from heat. Proper assembly, appropriate e-liquid, and avoiding temperature extremes minimises leaking. Modern designs leak less than older models.
Completely legal, but TPD regulations limit tank capacity to 2ml (reduced from 5ml+ pre-TPD). This means frequent refilling - annoying but legal. The restriction aims to limit nicotine consumption, though it mainly inconveniences users. All legitimate UK retailers only stock TPD-compliant 2ml versions.
