Geekvape Sonder Q2 Review: How to Fill, LED Meanings and Q Pod Guide

By shane margereson  •   6 minute read   •   Last updated: February 19, 2026

Geekvape's first Sonder Q was a massive seller when it dropped in 2023. Dead simple, dead cheap, and small enough to forget it's in your pocket. The Sonder Q2 keeps that same approach but bumps up the battery, swaps plastic for aluminium, and throws in better pod options.

I've had one in my pocket for a few weeks now. Below I've scored it, walked through how to fill the pods step by step, explained what the LED colours mean, and covered which Q pod resistance to grab.

What's Changed from the Sonder Q to the Q2?

Already own a Sonder Q? Here's what Geekvape upgraded.

Battery and build are the headline changes. 1350mAh comfortably lasts a full day,  I've stretched it to a day and a half on lighter days without worrying. The aluminium body genuinely feels like a different league to the plastic Q. More weight to it, sturdier in the hand.

The other thing worth mentioning is auto pod recognition. Stick a pod in and the Q2 reads the coil resistance and sets the wattage. You don't touch anything. Honestly, for a kit aimed at people coming off disposables, that's a really smart move.

Sonder Q2 Review

I'll be upfront with you, I wasn't expecting much from a kit at this price point. It's changed my mind.

Design: 4/5. Metallic finish, slim, pocketable. Looks far better than anything this cheap has a right to. My one complaint is grip. The smooth aluminium is slippery compared to the ridged texture on the old Q, and I've fumbled it out of my pocket more than once.

Battery I'd give a solid 5. Day and a half between charges as a moderate vaper, and I genuinely wasn't thinking about battery life at all during testing. About 70 minutes to charge from flat via USB-C. Geekvape doesn't put a cable in the box (annoying), but any USB-C lead will do. You can also vape while it charges, which is handy when you forget to plug it in overnight.

Airflow: 5/5. Slider on the side goes from tight MTL right through to a looser restricted draw. With the 0.8Ω pod it's a proper MTL hit and exactly what you'd want if you're used to disposables.

Flavour surprised me. Mesh coils in the Q pods kick out clean, defined flavour from the very first fill. No break-in weirdness, no muted first few puffs. It stayed consistent right up until the pod needed swapping. That doesn't always happen with pods at this price, so fair play to Geekvape on the coil tech. 5/5.

Pod filling gets a 4. The side-fill method is a big step up from the old top-fill — you don't need to yank the mouthpiece off every time. Unstop the rubber bung, fill, done. Lost a mark because you only get one pod in the box. A second pod would've made this kit near-faultless.

Overall: 5/5. Genuinely hard to fault at this price. Does exactly what a new vaper needs, nothing more, nothing less.

How to Fill a Sonder Q2 (and Sonder Q)

Depends which Q pod you've got in. The Q2 ships with a side-fill pod, but it takes the older top-fill ones too.

Side-Fill Q Pods (3ml / 2ml TPD)

Leave the pod in the kit — no need to pull it out.

  1. Find the rubber bung on the side of the pod. Small silicone stopper, can't miss it.

  2. Pull it out gently and you'll see the fill port.

  3. Squeeze your e-liquid in. Don't go past the max line — overfilling causes leaks.

  4. Press the bung back in until it sits flush.

Brand new pod? Give it 3 to 5 minutes before you vape. The wick needs to soak up the liquid first, otherwise you'll get a dry, burnt hit.

Top-Fill Q Pods (2ml)

These need a bit more faff.

  1. Pull the pod out of the kit.

  2. Grip the mouthpiece and pull it off — takes a firm tug.

  3. There's a small rubber flap inside. Push it aside and fill to about 80%. Leave a gap at the top for air.

  4. Click the mouthpiece back on and slide the pod into the kit.

Same deal with new pods — wait a few minutes before your first puff.

What E-Liquid Works Best?

50/50 VG/PG nic salt e-liquids. That ratio matches how quickly the mesh coils wick. You can use freebase too, but keep it at or near 50/50. Thicker 70/30 liquids struggle to wick fast enough and you'll end up with dry hits.

Which Q Pod Should I Choose?

All Q pods fit the Sonder Q, Sonder Q2, Wenax Q, Wenax Q Mini, and Aegis Q. So whichever kit you've got, these all work.

Side-Fill Pods (My Recommendation)

Newer pods, bigger capacity, VPU mesh coils, and colour-coded resistances so you can tell them apart without squinting.

  • 0.4Ω (Red) — 25-30W. Loosest draw. Restricted direct lung. Most vapour. Only works with kits that hit 30W, so the Q2 but not the original Q.

  • 0.6Ω (Orange) — 18-25W. Sits between MTL and restricted lung. A bit more vapour without a full lung hit.

  • 0.8Ω (Yellow) — 12-18W. This is the one that comes with the Q2. Solid MTL. If you're used to disposables, start here.

  • 1.2Ω (Green) — 8-12W. Tightest draw, closest to a cigarette. Lower vapour, stronger throat hit.

Top-Fill Pods

Same coils, smaller 2ml capacity, three resistances (0.6Ω, 0.8Ω, 1.2Ω). Bit fiddlier to fill since you're pulling the mouthpiece off each time. They work fine, but I'd pick the side-fills for the extra capacity alone.

Pod lifespan runs about 7 to 10 days with normal use. When the flavour starts tasting dull or a bit off, it's time. Packs of three from Ecigone in both fill styles.

Sonder Q2 LED Light Meanings

The RGB ring sits inside the "O" on the front of the kit. It does different things depending on what's happening.

First-Gen Sonder Q

Same colour meanings but the whole SONDER logo lights up, not a ring. Green over 60%, blue 30–60%, red under 30%.

Charging Your Sonder Q2

USB-C port on the side. Geekvape doesn't include a cable so use whatever you've got lying around as long as it's USB-C.

LED ring pulses while charging. Solid green means done. Full charge from flat takes about 70 minutes. Pass-through charging works too, so you can vape while it's plugged in. Charging takes longer if you do though.

How do I know when it's done? Pulsing stops, solid green stays on. Unplug.

The first-gen Q charges the same way but takes closer to 85 minutes since the charge rate is slower.

Who's the Sonder Q2 For?

People ditching disposables, mainly. If you've been on Elf Bars or Lost Marys and want a rechargeable pod kit that works the same way,  inhale to fire, no buttons, no menus & that’s it. Fill the pod, put it in, vape. That's the whole process.

Works well as a backup kit for experienced vapers too. Slips into a pocket and you don't have to think about it.

Costs about the same as a couple of disposables used to. Pair it with nic salts and you're sorted for weeks.

Browse the full Sonder range for all colours and pod options, or check out the wider Geekvape lineup. The Wenax Q Pro and Aegis Q use the same pod system, so your pods carry over. Got a Wenax giving you trouble? Our Wenax pod leaking guide covers the fixes.
