What are RDTAs?

Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomisers, or RDTAs, combine the features of both RDAs and RTAs, offering the best of both worlds: the flavour experience of an RDA with the convenience of an RTA. Unlike RTAs, RDTAs have a tank that feeds e-liquid to a dripping-style deck located beneath the build deck.

RDTAs come in various coil configurations, including single, dual, and mesh coil options, catering to both MTL (mouth-to-lung) and DTL (direct-to-lung) vaping styles and everything in between. Mesh coil RDTAs are more suited to advanced vapers due to the intricate setup required for optimal performance. If you're new to rebuildables, it's recommended to start with a standard coil option to build your knowledge before attempting mesh coils. RDTAs provide a versatile vaping experience for both MTL and DTL enthusiasts.

What are the Best RDTAs of 2024?

RDTAs are a perfect blend of an RTA and an RDA, they offer the convenience of an RTA with the flavour of an RDA. We have had a lot of discussion in the office so here are our top 3 RDTA recommendations for 2024.

Nitrous RDTA by Damnvape

We're huge fans of the Nitrous RTA and RDA by Damnvape so when the RDTA came along, it was a no brainer to stock! The simple yet effective postless build deck can accommodate dual or single coils depending on your preference. It’s super easy to set up and it uses 4 stainless steel mesh rods to act as a wick drawing e-liquid up through the rods and onto the wicks at the top. You definitely get RDA levels of flavour from this RDTA and being versatile with single or dual coils makes this one of my favourite RDTAs.

Hellvape Helheim S RDTA by Hellvape

The ‘S’ in the name denotes that this is a single coil RDTA from Hellvape. The postless deck is a breeze to build on and the honeycomb airflow holes underneath the coil maximises the flavour of your chosen e-liquid perfectly.

This is a fall RDTA which is excellent for e-liquid capacity, they also use 4 stainless steel rods to wick the e-liquid from the tank to the wicks at the top which works flawlessly. The Helheim S also has two independent airflow rings to govern both side and bottom airflow, so can close one or the other off or why not experiment with a combination of both?.

Aromamizer Plus V3 RDTA by Steam Crave

Steam Crave are world famous for their range of products, I own several of their larger RTAs and they’ve always been amazing bits of kit. This one is special though as it’s multipurpose it can be used as an RDTA, and RTA, and even an RDA but it doesn’t stop there, the Aromamizer Plus V3 is interchangeable with various Steam Crave decks that includes a mesh deck, velocity style deck, series deck, and a single coil deck. It’s easy to see why this one is one of our favourites, its versatility is unmatched, you can buy one tank and convert it into whatever you need making this an ideal tank for those that like to experiment.

Why Choose and RDTA?

RDTAs are designed to deliver the intense flavour and thick vapour production typically associated with RDAs, thanks to their dripping-style build deck. Unlike RDAs, which require frequent dripping of e-liquid onto the coils, RDTAs have a built-in tank that feeds e-liquid to the wicks, providing the convenience of a tank system and reducing the need for constant refilling.

RDTAs allow for extensive customisation. You can build and install your own premade coils and choose your preferred wicking material, giving you complete control over your vaping experience. RDTAs are available in a variety of configurations, including single-coil, dual-coil, and mesh coil options. This versatility allows you to choose the setup that best suits your vaping style, whether it's MTL (mouth-to-lung) or DTL (direct-to-lung).

RDTAs FAQ

What is an RDTA?

An RDTA, or Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomiser, combines features of both RDAs (Rebuildable Dripping Atomisers) and RTAs (Rebuildable Tank Atomisers), offering the flavour and vapour production of an RDA with the convenience of an RTA's tank.

How do I build a coil for an RDTA?

Building a coil for an RDTA involves wrapping wire around a coil jig or similar tool, installing the coil on the build deck, securing it with screws, and threading and trimming the wick. The tank then feeds e-liquid to the coil and wick setup.

What are the benefits of using an RDTA?

Benefits include enhanced flavour and vapour production, the convenience of a built-in tank, extensive customisation options, cost savings on coils, and a satisfying building experience.

Can I use an RDTA if I am new to vaping?

RDTAs are generally more suited to experienced vapers due to the need for coil building and wicking knowledge. Beginners might prefer starting with simpler devices like sub-ohm tanks before progressing to RDTAs.

What is the difference between an RDTA and an RDA?

The main difference is that RDTAs have a tank to hold e-liquid, reducing the need for constant dripping, while RDAs require manual dripping of e-liquid onto the coils.

How do I prevent leaking in my RDTA?

Proper wicking is essential to prevent leaks. Ensure the wick covers the juice channels without blocking airflow, and make sure the tank is properly assembled with no loose parts.

What are the best materials for wicking an RDTA?

Organic cotton is the most common wicking material due to its excellent absorption and flavour delivery. Some users also experiment with materials like rayon or silica.

How often should I change the coils and wicks in my RDTA?

The frequency of coil and wick changes depends on usage and the type of e-liquid. Generally, it's recommended to change the wick every few days and the coil every couple of weeks, or when you notice a decline in flavour or vapour production.

What types of coils can I use in an RDTA?

RDTAs can accommodate a variety of coils, including single-coil, dual-coil, and mesh coil options. The choice depends on your vaping style and desired performance.

Why is my RDTA not producing enough vapour?

If your RDTA isn't producing enough vapour, check the coil resistance, ensure proper wicking, verify that the tank has sufficient e-liquid, increase the wattage (within safe limits), and make sure there are no airflow blockages.
