Today I had the chance to interview ‘Jaff Vapes’ a vape reviewer and content creator who currently has 10.5k subscribers on his YouTube channel as well as a decent following across his social media accounts and is now a content creator for Ecigone so look out for his videos on the website.

Jaff has had a few interesting careers as you will see from his statement below but, one of his biggest attributes is that he likes to help people both in his professional and personal life. Being a moderately heavy smoker at the time, Jaff knew he had to make a change in his life and that is where his passion for vaping was born. Jaff Vapes: “I was a chef for 10 years and had my own restaurant/bar but realised that wasn’t for me, after 10 years of hard labour I took my career to a whole new level and did a 360. I transitioned into the civil service and also volunteered as a police officer with the Metropolitan Police (Special Constable). When joining the police I knew I had to stop smoking, I was smoking at least 20 cigarettes a day and spending a fortune! My overall health was like a 99 year old man.

The cigarette smoking was making me breathless, giving me sore heads, giving me sleepless nights and all in all affecting my health. I wanted the healthier option, so started with vaping. I tried various devices from Innokin and Smok but nothing seemed to work for me, I’d always see myself fall back to having a cheeky cig. I was recommended by a friend to try the OXVA Vativ, this was the one and only device that helped me completely stop cigarettes. It was the best of both worlds, it has a sub ohm tank and could transition into a pod device, I still have the device and it’s going strong to this day!

I have a passion for helping people, hence why I put my life on the line as a volunteer with the metropolitan police force. I decided I wanted to help other smokers out there and guide them on what devices to use to stop the nasty habit of cigarettes. I enjoy unboxing and reviewing the devices and sharing my initial thoughts in an honest way. The excitement of getting a new device and mastering all its features, it’s like Christmas! I also like to interact with the viewers, that’s important to me! Then I can see the impact I have and who I’ve helped by giving them advice. 1. It’s clear that you have dedicated a large portion of your life helping others, either via the service industry, the public service industry (Police), or now as a reviewer and content creator. With this in mind, what gives you the most satisfaction?

Answer: What gives me the most satisfaction is knowing that I am making a positive impact on the lives of others. Whether it's through providing excellent service in the service industry, serving and protecting the community as a police officer, or creating valuable content as a reviewer and content creator, I find fulfilment in knowing that my efforts are helping others in some way. Seeing the difference I can make in someone's life, no matter how small, is truly rewarding and drives me to continue my work in these various roles.

2. What tips would you give a current smoker wanting to switch to vaping?

Answer: Do your research: Take the time to learn about different vaping devices, e-liquids, and vaping techniques. Understanding how vaping works and what options are available will help you make informed choices.

Start with a beginner-friendly device: Consider starting with a simple, user-friendly vaping device to ease into the transition. Pod systems or beginner vape pens are great options for new vapers.

Choose the right nicotine strength: When selecting e-liquids, opt for a nicotine strength that is comparable to what you were getting from smoking cigarettes. This will help curb cravings and make the transition smoother.

Experiment with flavours: Vaping offers a wide range of flavours to choose from. Try different flavours to find what you enjoy the most, as this can enhance your vaping experience and make it more enjoyable.

Stay patient and persistent: Switching from smoking to vaping is a process that may take time. Be patient with yourself and don't get discouraged if it doesn't happen overnight. Keep at it and give yourself time to adjust to the change.

3. As a reviewer you will have seen and possibly reviewed many different vaping products, what vaping hardware is in your current rotation and why?

Answer: In my current vaping rotation, I rely on the Vaporesso Armour Max and the Geekvape Legend 3. These devices stand out to me for several reasons. The flavour produced by the GTI and Z coils are truly exceptional, providing a rich and satisfying vaping experience. Additionally, the life capacity of these coils is impressive, lasting far longer than many others I have tried. I appreciate the versatility of both devices, as they offer ideal airflow for both direct-to-lung (DTL) and restricted direct-to-lung (RDL) vaping styles.

This flexibility allows me to customise my vaping experience based on my preferences at any given time. I set up one of the devices as a dessert-based tank and the other with fruit flavours, this keeps vaping fun and enjoyable with being able to alternate between both throughout the day. 4. What style of vaping do you prefer the most? MTL, RDL, or DTL?

Answer: When it comes to vaping, my preference leans towards direct-to-lung (DTL) and restricted direct-to-lung (RDL) styles rather than mouth-to-lung (MTL). I enjoy the fuller, more intense flavour and larger vapour production that DTL and RDL vaping provide. The experience of inhaling directly into the lungs creates a more satisfying sensation for me. I can taste every note of the e-liquid I’m using.

I find that different e-liquid flavours and brands can greatly influence my vaping style preference. For instance, some e-liquids are best enjoyed with a DTL approach to fully appreciate their complex flavours, while others may be more suited for RDL vaping to strike the right balance of flavour and vapour production. Usually, dessert flavours are best with RDL, rotating that airflow a notch will keep your mouth watering for more! I like to switch between RDL and DTL vaping depending on the specific e-liquid I am using at the time. This flexibility allows me to tailor my vaping experience to best suit the flavour profile and vapour output of each individual e-liquid, ensuring that I get the most enjoyment out of each vaping session.

5. Are you a pod kit vaper or a mod and tank vaper, also do you prefer stock coils or are you more into rebuildables? or a mixture of them all?

Answer: I primarily consider myself a mod and tank vaper, as I enjoy the versatility and customisation options that these setups offer. However, when I'm on the go or need something more compact and convenient, I turn to pod devices that can handle both 50/50 and 70/30 e-liquids. This makes it easier for me to carry around, especially during busy days at work or when I'm on duty.

Some of the pod devices that I find perfect for mobility and reliable performance are the Vaporesso Luxe XR, Asmodus Minikin Pod Kit, and Drag H40. These devices strike a balance between portability and functionality, allowing me to vape comfortably while on the move without compromising on performance. 6. Following on from that question, what is your current favourite bit of vaping hardware?

When it comes to e-liquid flavours, I like to have a combination of dessert and fruit flavours available every day, though my preference often changes depending on my mood. Patience is key, and it's important not to give up, as it takes time for your body to adapt to vaping.

They have overshadowed the enjoyment of traditional vaping devices and have led to a decline in the production of more sustainable options like devices and shortfill e-liquids. Additionally, the environmental implications of disposable products, particularly the plastic waste they generate, cannot be ignored. Considering the potential risks associated with disposables, especially in relation to underage vaping, I would support measures to restrict their availability. Implementing a ban on disposables, could help curb their accessibility to minors and address the environmental concerns surrounding these products.

11. In your previous career especially working for the Police, have you found vaping to be more accepted socially than smoking? Either in public or by your coworkers? Have you come across any issues with vaping in public?

Answer: Throughout my career, particularly when working in law enforcement, I have observed vaping to be generally more socially accepted than smoking, both in public settings and among coworkers. Personally, I have not encountered any significant issues with vaping in public spaces. It seems that vaping has gained wider acceptance compared to traditional smoking, with more individuals choosing to vape as a social activity.

I have noticed a growing trend of people transitioning from being non-smokers to vapers, often as a way to participate in social settings. Vaping has become a more sociable activity, and it is not uncommon to see individuals who were previously non-smokers now embracing vaping as a way to connect with others in social environments. While vaping is generally accepted by many, there may still be a few individuals who hold differing views or disagree with vaping. However, overall, my experience has shown that vaping is becoming increasingly normalised and widely accepted in society, with more people choosing vaping as a preferred alternative to traditional smoking.

12. Either as a reviewer or in your personal life, what vape brands do you like the most and why?

Answer: In both my role as a reviewer and in my personal vaping experience, I have developed a strong preference for Vaporesso and Geekvape as my favourite vape brands. Be patient with yourself and the process, as it may take some time to find the right setup and routine that works for you. Starting with mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping can be a good approach for those transitioning from smoking to vaping. Investing in quality vaping equipment and premium e-liquids is crucial for a more satisfying experience. Remember that vaping is not just a short-term solution but a long-term investment in your health and well-being.

Starting at a low wattage and gradually increasing it as you become more comfortable can help you ease into the vaping experience.
