Your Vape Kit - A Tear Down

Vape kits, whether pod or sub-ohm, come in two parts—a tank or pod and a mod. These two parts are integral for the vape kit to work properly as a whole, and if either one is poorly maintained, it can negatively impact your vaping experience—and you definitely don't want that!

The Top - Tank/Pod

Tanks and pods hold the e-liquid and coil—sub-ohm vape kits have a tank, and pod vape kits have a pod—an important distinction when choosing between devices!

Whether you have a sub-ohm vape kit or a pod vape kit, the pod and tank on each have the same main components:

Mouthpiece: The mouthpiece does pretty much what it says on the tin—it's the piece you place in your mouth when you inhale from your vape kit. Mouthpieces are designed to be ergonomic, comfortable, and hygienic, allowing for longer vaping sessions with minimal discomfort.

Tank: This is the part of the tank/pod that holds your e-liquid. Tanks/pods usually hold 2 ml of e-liquid, but some brands offer an XL version. Tanks/pods usually have a top-fill or side-fill port for refilling—whichever you choose is up to your personal preference.

Coil: The coil is where the e-liquid saturates a wicking material and heats up to produce a vapour. Coils come in different resistances, requiring a different power output to function.

The Bottom - Mod

The Mod powers the vape kit, providing power, a host of features, and safety precautions to make your vaping experience as smooth as possible.

Battery Device: This is what provides the vape kit with its power. Some devices have a built-in battery, while others require external ones.

Screen: Not all vape kits have screens, but the ones allow you to see all the vaping information you could need - from battery level and wattage to coil resistance and puff count.

Buttons: Mods with buttons are used for various functions, such as switching the device on and off, locking it, changing the wattage, and cycling through settings.

Charging Port: All vape kits come with Type-C USB charging, which powers up the batteries so you can return to vaping as quickly as possible.

Keeping Your Vape Kit in Perfect Condition - Tank

Keeping your tank/pod in good condition is crucial for ensuring you can get the best out of your vape kit. Follow these tips to stay on top of your vaping game:

Clean the mouthpiece: Every so often, remove the mouthpiece and rinse it down with warm water—this will help remove any blockages and keep it hygienic, too.

Clean and inspect the tank/pod: A clean tank/pod is crucial not only for proper function but also for quality of taste. Clean removable tanks with warm water and inspect them for cracks or imperfections. When it comes to pods, make sure you're changing them regularly so they stay fresh, and periodically clean the contacts on the bottom with a cotton bud to ensure a stable

connection to the vape kit mod.

Change and prime the coil: Coils don't last forever, and after continued usage, they may develop a burnt taste or not produce as flavoursome vapour as when they were new. When your coil reaches this stage (if it's removable), replace it with a fresh one. If it's a built-in coil, like in a pod, simply replace the pod.

It's also a good idea to prime the wick in the coil first by applying e-liquid and letting it saturate for 5-10 minutes—this removes the risk of burning out a fresh coil.

Keeping your Vape Kit in Perfect Condition - Mod

You've seen how to look after your tanks/pods; let's move on to the mods.

Screen and buttons: Regularly wipe the screen down (if your device has one) to remove dirt and smudges and keep it clear. This is more of a matter of hygiene than anything, but it's a good practice to get into.

Battery: Batteries are what make your vape kits work, so keeping them in good condition is imperative. Look out for peeling wrapping, rust, and any damage to the batteries or device. Always store your external batteries in static-free cases and charge only in dedicated chargers rather than through the USB port.

Charging port: Keeping your charging port clean and clear is essential to ensuring your vape kit can charge efficiently and reduce the risk of damage to the device and you. To keep clean, gently brush away dirt or debris from the port with a soft-bristled brush, and use a small cotton bud to remove any dirt from the port itself.

Summary

Looking after and maintaining your vape kits is an excellent practice, too. It not only keeps the device hygienic and in good working order but can also extend its longevity and reduce the risk of any damage that could be caused to it or you.

Hopefully, our guide has given you all the tools you need to safely and effectively keep your vape kit in tip-top condition and let you continue to enjoy an excellent vaping experience.

Vape Maintenance FAQs

How do you properly take care of a vape?

There are a few different steps to taking care of your vape, from priming the coil in your tank or pod and cleaning the mouthpiece and connectors to wiping down the screen and buttons of your vape device, checking the batteries are in good condition, and cleaning out the USB port.

How can I extend the life of my vape?

Regular cleaning, coil priming, and not letting it get into compromising situations like leaving it somewhere too hot, cold or wet and dropping it too much can help extend the life of your vape.

How often should I clean my vape tank?

You should clean the tank every time you change the flavour of your e-liquid to prevent contamination, then once every couple of weeks to keep your vape working optimally. Cleaning your tank when you change your coil is also advised.

How are you supposed to vape properly?

Inhale the vapour slowly, and don't swallow while doing so. Avoid overfilling your tank or pod, prime the coil before use, and clean your pods and kits regularly.
